Many people have asked me about the best photos for Pop Art, and the color options available. The general answer is any close up photo will work. Ideally however, the lighting on the subject’s face should be uniform, meaning there are no shadows on part of their face. Many times this eliminates photos that were taken outside, particularly if the subject is photographed near something that casts a shadow on part of them.
Below is a Pop Art I created recently. Here is the original photo, taken by Christy Leishman in Billings.

Ainsley’s dorm room is poppy, grass green, brown, and white. Those colors were the basis for the design. As I played with different color combinations, her beautiful blue eyes were begging me to add some blue, but it still needed to work in her room at school. Here are some color combinations with this in mind:

After viewing several options, here is the final artwork her Mom chose. Happy Birthday Ainsley!

Thanks for all your guidance with and work on this piece, Tamra. Your help “erasing” black lines on Ainsley’s face and your choice of colors were excellent and we’re all happy with the final product. I can’t wait to see how it looks in her room!
