Fishing Photo Montage

Fall is definitely in the air. The leaves have turned beautiful yellow, gold, and red. The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting cooler. My Mom is right, the older I get, the faster time seems to fly. Especially this summer. We had all five children home for an extended period of time. It was really busy, but really fun. As I look back at all the pictures I took this summer, there are several favorites. But these stand out among the rest. Maybe it’s the beauty of the Montana scenery, or the expression on the faces. Or maybe it’s that they captured for me, a perfect memory, a special relationship, and an incredible day of family time together. Regardless of the reason, I had to create something special with them. I wanted it to be simple. Uncluttered, so the Montana scenery and the face expressions would be the focus. Here is what I did:

I think I am going to start a wall college in our downstairs TV room with family photos in this style composition. Next, I am going to create one for each of our daughter’s so that everyone is represented. Thanks for viewing.

Sports Photos Make Great Wall Art

I love turning sports photos into one-of-a-kind wall art. Whether it’s a young child, a high school or college student, or a professional athlete, it one of my favorite photo art designs to create. Mixing some text, team logos, or cool textures with action sports photography is a great way to decorate teens bedrooms or dorm rooms. With high school football starting this week here in Montana, I thought I would showcase a few of my recent favorites:

A blue color was added to this design to compliment the bedroom decor and add some punch to the artwork. Colors and text are selected by the customer when they upload their images to our website.

Here is another composition from a different football player, in the same style of grunge wall art that appeals to teens and college students.

Remember, the sports photos don’t have to be perfect or taken by a professional in order to make great wall decor. Bring your camera to the game and take lots of pictures. You will be surprised how many great pictures you end up with if you press the shutter button enough times!

Pop Art Pets

Our children love dogs. Unfortunately, because of my husband’s allergies, we can not have one. Even the hypoallergenic dogs are a problem for him. So it us particularly fun for me, to work with dog photos. Admittedly, I am drawn to the Pop Art Andy Warhol style of wall decor when it comes to animals. I don’t know if it’s the cartoon rendition of the photo, or the bright vivid colors, but either way, this style of photo art just makes me happy. The colors are totally can be customized to fit perfectly into a person’s home or office. Here are some before and afters …

Little League Baseball

This year we entered a new era, . . . the era of little league baseball. Our 4 and 5 year old boy played t-ball for the first time this spring. This has got to be one of the funnest and funniest times of parenting little boys. The juxtaposition of one moment, watching them pick dandelions while the ball is coming right toward them, compared to the next moment, when there is a cluster of eight little bodies all running toward the ball at once. Or, the time when our son forgot to run to first base, before he ran to second. T-ball is the best!

We have a fabulous coach, who kept the kids interested while learning the basics of baseball along the way. As a thank you to him, I created a photo montage of some pictures I took at the last game.

With most photo montages, I like to desaturate the background of each image, leaving just the main subject in color. But with this photo art design, I decided to leave everything in color. I think it’s because with all the grey skies we have had recently in Billings, I am craving color. I am craving green grass and blue skies! So I pumped up the vibrance in each photo and let my eyes (or yours, if you are viewing this post), soak up the spring in these pictures.

Here is the final composition. It was produced as a 11×14 stand out mount, ready to hand in his office or den. Shhhhh! Don’t tell the Coach. We haven’t given it to him yet!!

Personalized Mother’s Day Gift

Recently I had the pleasure of working on a photo montage for a Mom in Seattle. Her mother-in-law wanted to surprise her with a photo art design created with some special pictures of her children. With the customer’s help, we contacted the professional photographer in Seattle who took these photos and she agreed to provide a copyright release so we could use them for this purpose.

ORIGINALS:

It is easy to see why these pictures are so special. The challenge is how to tastefully bring them all together into one composition, because the colors in each photo are very different. Before I began, I asked lots of questions about where this artwork would hang? What colors are in that room? Why style is the furniture/decor in that room? I learned that the room where it will likely hang is a French country style, decorated in beige/gold/green/light red.

Below are some of the designs I created with this in mind.

PROOFS:

The customer chose this one as the final artwork which was produced as a soft top thin wrap, so that when hung, it appears to float on the wall.

Gymnastics Photo Montage

This week I just delivered a couple gymnastics photo art designs. Having been a gymnast many (and I mean many!) years ago, these were particularly fun to create. This weekend is the Montana State Gymnastic meet so I thought it would be a good time to write a blog post about these pictures.

ORIGINALS:

The parents wanted a photo montage style of artwork, with their daughter’s name somewhere on the piece. They also wanted the picture of her on the balance beam larger than the rest. Because there is a lot of pictures and busy backgrounds, we kept the text and embellishments simple. Here here is the final artwork they selected from a series of proofs I created for them. Next are the originals for the second gymnast photo art design I got the pleasure of working on for this family.

ORIGINALS:

The parents wanted the picture of her chalking her hands larger than the rest. The montage is similar to the one above, but I kept a little more pink in the black and white areas to tie into the color of her clothing. The final artwork shown here uses a different edge effect and name plate than the first one above, to show some of the possibilities with this kind of design.
